This is brilliant. It locks over the switch to keep the power on and gives you physical dimming. Feels smooth, looks clean, and avoids “someone turned off the Hue switch” drama.

This is probably my favorite Hue switch. It's intuitive to use, the button feels tactile, while not requiring too much force, and the dial is smooth and offers a nice amount of resistance. It's easy to install and you can use any wall plate.But it's hard to accept how pricey it is for what you get. There's barely anything to it. Don't even get me started on the currently $7.49 paddle switch bracket. If you have paddle switches that these don't fit nicely over, you can buy a full light switch for less than a dollar. Why does a piece of plastic cost $7.49? Granted, that piece of plastic lets you mount it anywhere, not requiring a light switch box, but it's just too much.I do have concerns about durability though. It's not an enclosed device, there's nothing stopping dust from entering the dial and gumming it up. In fact, a month into owning it, I've noticed that it's kind of scratchy in spots. Was it always like that? I don't know, but it's not great.

The dimmer and mount work well, can be placed in an existing wall box or mounted on the wall. It comes with everything you need to mount it, including drywall anchors and screws for both a j-box and wall mount. The dimmer is held securely, and is easy to use and set up. Unfortunately, the item sent to me was used/open box. Everything was present, but the box had been taped shut, papers were damaged, screws were loose, and the dimmer had been previously configured, so needed to be factory reset. This is disappointing, as it was sold as new.

I moved into a old rental home recently which has switched outlets in every bedroom. Pretty convenient in the days before smart lighting! But for my home office, the switched outlet was where I wanted to plug in my PC. Definitely don't want that on a switch, but I still wanted some sort of physical switch to control my lights.The Lutron Aurora fit that need perfectly. I removed the existing paddle switch and capped the electrical wires, keeping my PC's outlet on permanently, and then mounted the Aurora's bracket over top. I happen to have Lutron switches already, so I like that it matches the aesthetic.The dimmer was very easy to connect to my Hue setup, and it's been working great. I love how configurable it is; you can have the dial and button-press perform different actions.One thing that's taken some adjustment is the short lag inherent to Hue lights. This has never felt like a problem when I use the Hue app, but it's different when you're turning a physical, tactile knob. I just expect the response to be more instantaneous. I also have standard dimmer switches throughout my home, so that might have something to do with it, and again, it's not the Aurora's fault.If you want to replace your switches with a smart dimmer, or really prefer a dial, the Lutron Aurora is great! But if those don't apply to you, the cheaper Hue dimmer switch might be a better choice.

This dimmer is the most logical device to replace a dumb switch if you use Hue bulbs. It is visually obvious that it is a light switch, without any techie stuff or a bunch of buttons. This thing just works, and looks like a regular dimmer that may have been installed anytime since the 1970’s.Until just recently, it worked flawlessly, but it was missing many features that cheaper first party hue switches and buttons have. Now, this dimmer has finally received the ability to use time based light settings as well as the natural light scene. Finally, this device has feature parity with first party devices.

I really like that these dimmer switches do double duty: they cover up the switch so that the light stays on so that the smart functions still work, and they also have a nice button and a dimmer. This works extremely well for the regular kind of wall switch.However, with a paddle switch, it is necessary to turn off the power, take out the switch, and tie the wires directly together, completely disconnecting them from the switch. This is a lot more work, and not something that is necessarily easy to do if one rents an apartment. It’s also very important to make sure that power is in fact out, to avoid electrocution.The solution would be to make the bracket slightly deeper, such that it would just cover the paddle switch, and then it would operate just like with a regular switch: the paddle switch would not need to be removed, but it also wouldn’t able to be turned off, and the smart switch would operate as normal. Fortunately, I only had one paddle switch, but if I had to do this with every switch in my apartment, it probably wouldn’t be worth it.Hopefully this will be changed in a future version.

Very easy installation and setup. This product works very well with my Philips Hue smart bulbs. Installation and setup with the Hue app took less than 5 minutes. No wiring needed. It runs on CR2032 batteries. I'm not sure how long the battery will last, but the batteries are very cheap anyways.Side note: I bought this product for around $24 on sale. I don't think I would buy it at it's normal price of $40.

The only dimmer option if you have Philips Hue Smart bulbs. You can not use a smart switch with a smart bulb. This item is a “Friends of Hue” product so it works seamlessly. Adds dimming functionality as well as allowing the light to be manually operated. Now if someone switches off the light it still keeps working. Also HomeKit compatible.
