Royal Designs Vintage Turn Knob Dimmer Lamp Socket

We replaced 2 regular pull chain sockets with CFL's in a floor lamp. Installed the two dimmer sockets with =100W LED bulbs. We now have adjustable light level with no glare. NOTE: some LED lamps are not always compatible with dimmers and may flicker. Do not assume the dimmer sockets are defective, try a different LED bulb if you encounter this.We can dim ours down almost to nothing before that happens

This is a very high-quality fixture. The dimming action on a LED bulb is smooth and free from flicker. The only annoyance is that the wire attachment points are REALLY frustrating to use. Looks through the mfg's photos to see what I mean. The attachment is very different from any other lamp I have ever had. I just installed one of these on an antique lamp, and it works great. The next time I use one of these I think I will trim the wire and solder the ends--this should make the attachment easier and more secure.

These are good basic dimmers but have a couple of issues to be aware of. First, the knob fell off one of two of mine during installation. It appears to be simply pressed on with a poor fit. Second, the wire attachment terminal strip is more recessed than the older dimmer I was replacing, by about 1/2”. The wires on my lamp were not long enough to reach the new switch which required disassembly of the entire lamp to move the wiring enough to reach. Once installed, the dimmers work fine with either incandescent or LED lamps.

This dimmer socket is one of the better sockets out there. The price is a little high, but it’s worth it. I had an issue with one of the knobs falling off and after contacting the company they sent a replacement. Good quality and even better customer service.

I have purchased 6 of these for various style lamps - 2 wall mounted bedside lamps, 2 table lamps, and 2 floor lamps. The look and feel is top quality. The switch turns smoothly and allows for gradual increase or decrease of current. I suspect the people who complain about the installation are inexperienced. You can't be clumsy, but it doesn't take an expert electrician either. Just use a small screw driver, and be thoughtful.
