Caseta Smart Dimmer and Smart Switch 3

I replaced a simple on/off flip switch, which controls lights in the ceiling, with the Lutron Caseta 3-Way Smart Switch Kit (P-PKG1WS-WH). The online interactive instructions were quite useful, clear to follow, and helpful. Although, the process included a few fits and starts, in the end, I was able to figure it all out and got it to work. The remote control needed to be paired, which involves holding the "off" button on both the wall plate and remote control simultaneously for about five seconds.

Best Smart System! I tried Levitron and the switches kept failing. Also their tech support suffered as they had no way of seeing what I had to work with (old wiring) during support calls. With Lutron, my god, it was as having an electrician at my side by video conferencing! The part are most expensive but better than paying $500 for electrician and they just work. I think this is similar to a computer company who speaks the truth. The hub alleviates the issue with white wire, but even then, I think makes the install super easy with its wireless module add ons like the Pico switch and motion detector.

I'm. pretty happy with this switch, is easy to install and also the remote makes it easier if you don't want to rain wiring for a second switch, it would be nice if the remote was already paired to the switch but it wasn't, also I didn't notice any instructions on how to pair it but I was able to find it online, push and hold the off button on the switch and do the same on the remote and when it's successful it will cycle the on/off on the switch a couple of times and then it will be successfully paired, 4 stars because it's not wifi connected but if I'm not mistaken you cna buy an additional wifi hub to connect it and be able to control it remotely, and is quite pricey too, I don't know how many remotes can you pair to this device but I have the dimmer version of this also and it has 3 remotes paired to it and it works very well too there is a small delay but nothing too concerning.Also I wish they would send an additional cover so you can mount the remote to the wall but they don't just a little bracket and it looks quite ugly, I was able to 3d print a wall mount bracket with cover and in my opinion that looks much better than the little bracket that comes with it, but if you end up not using your main cover with the switch you can use it to mount it to the wall is deep enough that it can be used alongside with the bracket and it will look quite nice, that's what I ended up doing with it but for my other dimmer switch remote that's in my living room, the 3d printed mount and cover looks quite nice too and I have that in my office.

I use the Lutron Castea system in conjunction with Apple HomeKit. They integrate seamlessly and easily while the combination allows a multitude of features. In addition, the Casseta Homebase network frees-up bandwidth on the 2.4Ghz band of my WiFi mesh network that would otherwise be taken-up by smart switches from any of the other vendors such as Kasa. Our four-story 3000sq.ft. townhouse functions nicely with a single Homebase connected via Ethernet to a Deco mesh node on the second floor.At first, I glossed over such features as adding remote switches and programming scenes via the Caseta app. Now I find they add tremendously to my home. For example, I have a Pico on the dining room table that adjusts all the lighting in and near the dining room for an evening meal with one touch. Same for the home theater; same for our primary bedroom at bedtime.I added a pico in the hallway using just a double gang faceplate on an existing single gang switch without any wiring at all. Now I can initiate the primary bedroom evening lighting scene - or turn on all the bedroom lights full strength - before I enter the room. There is even a pico with a built-in nightlight.If you have outdoor temporary lights, perhaps for the holidays, there are weatherproof outdoor switches you can program. All our permanent outdoor lighting is on the Caseta network for security and, of course, you can program switches for when a room is occupied via HomeKit.We also use the system for electrostatic air cleaners that help to keep our home dust and allergen free, turning them off when people are around and running them in vacant areas at night and when no one is home.As a bonus, energy bills have diminished a bit despite living in data center land. Take that AI.

I’ve installed many of these and half four of these set ups controlling different lights in my house. I don’t know how long these have been out for but as an electrician, the only way to achieve the function of these would be to run lots of 14–3 Romax which most times is not possible but more importantly much more expensive to the customer. This is probably one of the most important devices to have come out for lighting, in my opinion anyway. There is virtually no limits to switching lights from anywhere now. Lutron is a great brand and I have never run across any lighting incompatibilities with this brand. I’ve never installed one and had an issue with it, works every time. I do recommend an electrician install it for you, wiring is not a hobby and while it may look simple, there are lots of things good electricians look for in the switch box when they are installing devices like this and others. Anyway, highly recommend this and so glad to have found this a few few years back.

This saved me a great deal of work during a rewiring project. I had two 3-way switches, one for lights at the top of a staircase with the second switch at the bottom of the stairs and the other for lights at the bottom of the stairs with the second switch at the top. The problem was, the staircase has multiple turns and the walls are all old plaster which is extremely laborious to cut and run traveler lines through. With these Lutron switches, I was able to hard-wire the switch closest to the light fixture and place the remote as the second switch on an existing 2-gang switch box at the farther location for both lights. This saved me a huge amount of work. Furthermore, although the sticker price for the switches is a bit high, for me this approach saved money because I didn't have to buy 12-3 Romex for the traveler line, saw blades for cutting plaster, and spackle and paint to repair all the damage to the plaster. It's also nice that the top button is always on and the bottom is always off for the new 3-way switch (minor consideration, but still nice).The switches have been operational for 3 months and work flawlessly. In short, a fantastic product and one that I would highly recommend for renovations where traditional 3-way switches might be difficult to install.
