Sylvania WiFi LED Smart A19 Light Bulb

I ordered the Smart ST19 RGBW 2000k bulb. It’s a really fun wi-fi bulb, but really needs a better app to be more intuitive for frequent use.A rainbow of colors can be chosen with this bulb, and the regular white light option is on the warm spectrum (2000K). Although the app shows a spectrum for warm white to cool white, this bulb only has one option: warm white. In the app is a Color page where there are seven presets for different colors, but these cannot be changed or edited to a different hue. Unfortunately, both the Yellow and Orange default Color Presets are literally Green. The bulb has an LED light strip inside, so many of the colors produced are a blending of different colors, this is most extreme with the Orange/Yellow. Most of the Oranges that can be selected appear 50% Green in person, and all of the Yellows that can be selected on the spectrum are completely Green. True Orange can be found, but it’s not the default preset in the app for Orange. Below the presets is a spectrum of colors to manually choose from, but everything (the visuals and buttons) could be bigger and easier to use.Another option within the app are Effects, which have Presets, Music Sync, and Vacation Mode. The Effects “Presets” are different from the color presets I described above. These Presets are made by Sylvania that can simulate things like a Fireplace, an Emergency, or the Ocean — which means it will cycle through different colors every seven seconds or faster (there is either a fade option or a strobe effect, both can be slowed down to seven second intervals). In addition to these three effects, there are five more static presets — all of the colors can be edited, and all can be changed to strobe, fade, or static lights. The only downside is that it takes three taps to reach this menu after opening the app.The brightness scale for all settings is very good. It’s bright enough for me to read by at 500 lumens. The colors can be dimmed super low, practically as dim as a nightlight. I didn’t have any problems connecting to the bulb, but it does require 2.4 ghz. My Orbi router has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz running at all times. I found it convenient that this bulb doesn’t require a hub or a connection to Alexa or Google. It just connected to my phone via Wifi , and I’ve never had to reconnect it.I’m used to using Philips Hue bulbs around my house, and I love how easy it is to edit those lights within Apple HomeKit, but I wanted to try this as a cheaper option, and for the price this is a good value lightbulb. Even with its imperfect app, I’ve been using this bulb for the past four weeks on my nightstand, and I really appreciate the warm light options so to not disrupt my circadian rhythm. There are many good hue options for Red, and although I feel like I’m in a photography darkroom, I’ve been falling asleep faster after setting my light to a Red color.

This bulb has a great look and vivid colors. If you use the Sylvania app, this bulb has a broad and vivid color spectrum. Within the Alexa settings, you can use default colors. I wish there were a bright white because the default is warm white.What I like:- Within the Sylvania App you can set the bulb to music. Cool feature. Within the app, you can do automation around the outdoor temperature…. Interesting.- It connects to my Alexa with no problem and allows color and brightness changes.- A retro look that brings some pop to a roomWhat I don’t like:- Installation instructions from the side of the box go to a website without a video.Nice to know:- The bulb needs to be more intelligent to pick my 2.4 GHz. I name my 2.4 GHz and 5GHz WIFI networks the same. Most smart items have been able to work with this setup, but for this bulb, I had to put it on my guest network. This is not a significant issue, but just a heads-up.

I have the regular Sylvania Smart Bulbs in every bedroom in my house and in my dining room, and it ranks high amongst the best purchases I've ever made on Amazon (big statement). I have a clear glass chandelier-type light in my living room and I have been waiting a while for Sylvania to come out with a clear filament version of their smart bulbs to affix onto it. I ordered 3 of these Smart ST19 bulbs and they all arrived with the little glass rod broken inside (like another reviewer mentioned). The bulbs still works, but it looks... messy? What I was most disappointed about is the inability to change the warmth of the colored bulbs. I should have done more research; this is partly on me. But man, are these yellow. What I loved about the other smart bulbs is the ability to change the warmth depending on the time of day (cooler early evening - helps with seasonal affectiveness because it mimics daylight). Can't do that with this one. I will return and wait until they come out with another version.

This Sylvania bulb arrived broken and the pictures reflect that. So it's not the cool double helix you see on the box. The ribbon filament is mounted on a thin glass stem and it snapped during shipment. Neither the shipping box nor the bulb container were damaged in any way, so I'm guessing it's very fragile.I tried connecting the bulb to my network using the generic app I use for everything else, but I couldn't get it to work. So, you have to use the Sylvania wifi app. It's a decent app, and it's easy to use to get your bulb connected.Once you've got the app downloaded and bulb connected, you can control the colors and brightness. You can set it to a schedule if you don't have Google Home or Amazon Alexa to control your lights.It can also sync with music, but I haven't bothered trying that function.Aside from being broken, it's a unique bulb that offers some fun lighting options. In my opinion, it doesn't get bright enough to be a primary lighting source unless you have several in a smaller area.I'd still buy another bc I use it in my bedside lamp and it's plenty of light for that purpose.Take care
