Nice light for camping

For the price, this is a great lantern. We gave it to my son for his birthday. It works great as a lantern or flashlight. It is a very bright light and is great for camping. He has used it as a nighttime reading light too. He has never used batteries in it. He only uses the built in, rechargeable battery. We did have an issue with it. After a few months, the battery wouldn’t hold a charge. Since the rechargeable battery was the reason we purchased it, we were disappointed. It would still work with regular batteries though. I reached out to the seller and they replaced the lantern with a new one. The seller was quick to answer messages and I would buy from them again. So far, the new one is holding a charge.

Great Battery Powered Lantern

I bought this Wsky portable battery powered lantern over one month ago. It has two sources of power. There is a rechargeable built in battery that is charged using a USB cable that is included with the unit. You can also install 3 AA batteries that will power the unit as back up power in case you can't recharge the built in battery. There is a pilot light on the unit that lights red when its charging and green when its fully charged. It reached a full charge in about 3.5 hours. The lantern is 13 oz and stands 4.5 inches tall and is 3.5 inches in diameter. It has a hook to hang the unit or fold down handles to carry the unit. The light weight and small size of the lantern makes it very portable to fit in a back pack or even a glove compartment of a vehicle. The bottom of the unit has three built in magnets that will hold it firmly in place to any magnetic metal surface such as a car roof, trunk, bumper or hood. There is the main lantern LED light that is extremely bright. Though I have no way to measure the light output, the manufacturer says it is 1000 lumens and I believe that since I have a large lantern that is rated at 800 lumens and this small lantern is brighter by far. In addition to the main LED Lantern light, there is a light on top that can be turned on that acts like a flashlight. Also on top is a red light that flashes like a strobe unit to attract attention and has a second setting that will flash SOS, three short, three long and three short flashes which is the international distress signal to summon help. Right after I bought this unit, California experienced numerous wild fires that caused many areas to lose electric power. I hung this lantern on the ceiling in a large room 20' x 9' and we had sufficient light to read. I was so pleased I bought a second unit and that one has performed equally well. I'm going to purchase two additional units, one for each of my adult children. The price of less than $15 is an excellent value because the COB LED (Chip on Board Light emmiting Diode bulbs contained in this until are a new bright technology which consumes less power so the battery charge will last longer. The light was on for 8 hours straight and the rechargeable battery still had power when our electric was restored. I highly recommend this portable lantern.

A great little lamp

This lantern is super bright. I've been using it at home to light up my closet and it's great. It has two swing-out handles so you can carry it around, so my kids also use it for those middle of the night bathroom runs. You can also use the handles to hook it onto a backpack with a carabiner. The main light is the super bright light. You the top and bottom to slide it open. It's very smooth. Then, there's a button on the side near the top for the tip lights. These are the flashlight and the emergency lights. You can cycle through three options at the press of this button. It's about the size of a beer mug (it actually kind of looks like one, too) and it's very lightweight. The rechargeable battery is a plus, but you can also use 3 AA batteries at the bottom, after unscrewing the base. The plastic body seems sturdy, but I would definitely avoid dropping this item. For the price and all its usefulness, it's a really great lamp!

Perfect little camping lantern, worth every bit of it's price

Bought this last minute before a camping trip in West Virginia. Charged it up before I left and it lasted the whole trip without having to be recharged. Handy little lantern, hangs inside the tent well, and can be set on any flat surface. It's also magnetic, which is cool, I stuck it to the side of my Jeep while I was unloading in the dark. It's pretty compact, and lightweight, I plan on using it for my backpacking trips. I will definitely be ordering a few more just to have around. The only thing I found an issue with is the flashlight part is a really wide beam, and doesn't illuminate very far in front of you

Wonderfully convenient and useful item! I'm buying two more!

Love these! I bought two. These little, lightweight gems are just what I need to make my camping experience less cumbersome and better lit! My expensive, heavy, and large Coleman lamps and lanterns that require big batteries and propane are a thing of the past! There's an amazing amount of light from this little, lightweight lamp that you can adjust by lowering the top. The flashlight and red flashing emergency lights are an excellent innovation. I'm going to carry it (has nice little handles that fold against the side when not in use) when I go for my walk at night, as the light it produces along with the red strobe, are great. They will also be used in the house and car when not camping. Highly recommend!(If anything changes during our long road/camping trip, I will update this review.)

First one stayed on with batteries installed. Second one is good.

Update: The seller saw my review and contacted me. Sent me a replacement which works wonderfully. Change the rating to 5 stars.I compared similar lanterns on amazon before buying. This one has the best functions combined:1. Rechargeable yet can use batteries, make it ideal for home use AND outdoor multi nights camping trips.2. Magnets at the bottoms really comes handy sometimes.3. Flashlights. Some other models have flashlights too, but you need to remove and reattach the handle at a different positions. Imaging doing that in the dark?4. Hope I don't ever need the SOS lights but glad to have it.5. It is much brighter than my other lantern which uses 30 tiny individual LEDs.6. Seems durable enough if you don't throw it around and fight raccoons with it.Could be just mine since I don't see others mentioning this problem. Mine stays on with batteries installed even with the top pushed all the way down. Hope it's just mine doing this? Otherwise it's pointless having "backup" batteries when it drains when you are not using the lantern. Anyone know this? Need to decide on returning or replacing. Thanks!Other than that the functions are exactly what I need it for. Camped for 2 nights so the internal batteries lasted probably 6 hours with plenty bright lights at least. Flashlight function is very convenient with the dual handles. Magnets at the bottoms works well. And the emergence light could be useful.

Lots of features but short battery life

With double the battery life this would easily get five stars from me. I like having the flashlight mode even though it is primarily a lantern. The flashing red strobe pattern is a nice bonus I hope to never use. In lantern mode it only lasts for 2 to 2.5 hours. I have to remember it was $8 not $30 like some other options, so I'm still happy with it overall. One thing to note is that the option to control the brightness is just closing the lid not dimming the light, so it still burns the battery at the same rate. One perfect application of this lantern is for kids. You don't have to be worried about them wasting batteries. At $8 each can have his/her own and go wild.
