We have been losing power more often lately due to big storms. I have quite a few LED flashlights in the house, but needed a couple of battery powered LED lamps or lanterns to leave in specific spots during outage. These are solid, lightweight and bright. The fact that they are powered by three D-batteries give me peace of mind in terms of how long they will remain lit.I made the mistake of returning the first set I got. One of the batteries I installed was weak and I did not know. This caused the on-off light to turn RED instead of GREEN when I pressed it on. When I tested the second lantern, I used the same set of batteries, so obviously the same RED on/off light issue happened. User error!

Very good and bright. Would have been better if they used AA batteries instead of D.

Very bright not heavy ,, great for the price, various settings of brightness

It's a great compact lantern gives off Brillant light. The only issue was the battery cap was difficult to put back on. It took me quite awhile. Maybe needs an adjustment to make it easier. Thanks

These small lanterns have everything you need. It is small but not so light that is tips over easily. It hangs or carries or just sits. Best of all it provides enough light that I can see with only one or two in my basement apartment when the power goes out. If I sit it over my shoulder, I can even easily read with one. I also like it to take my dogs out to potty, as I can just sit it down and I can see where my dogs are and what they are doing. The different settings make this the perfect lamp for me when the power is out which is what I bought them for. Definitely an Easy 5 stars and I bought 4 and am glad I did. This company is very fast and everything, including shipping was exactly as stated. No surprises except for the lanterns were Better than I anticipated. Yes, I am quite pleased! Thank you
Not too big or too small. It's the perfect size for my needs.I needed to replace a lantern that was in a fire and burned up. I was looking for a lantern that wouldn't blind me when being used in my apartment when there is a power outage from a storm, hurricane or whatever. I was also looking for one that would have a good battery life. This one is perfect for my needs. It is brighter than my deceased lantern but having it on the lowest setting was just right for my needs. I got the chance to use it and it lit up my living room nicely providing me with more than enough light. It's got a bit of weight to it which I expected but it's not very heavy with the batteries in it. The battery area is clearly labeled for which direction the batteries go. I had absolutely no issues with opening it or closing it when putting batteries in.
I station six LED lanterns throughout the house as back-up light in case of a power outage. I bought several different brands of lights as I was replacing my old incandescent lanterns and flashlights to see what features I liked the best. The AYL turned out to be the all-around best for my needs, with the near-identical Lepro a close second.I like the size and lighter weight of the smaller lanterns. The round base of the AYL fits comfortably in my hand, allowing me to easily push the light button with my thumb. This is especially nice when I remove the globe and use the lantern as a flashlight. My larger lanterns don’t put out any more light but their extra batteries do increase run time. So I consider them better suited for camping or in areas that experience extended power outages. I’m fortunate to live in an area where power failures are rare and when they do occur their duration is measured in minutes, not hours.Another feature I’d never do without is a diffused globe. LED light is very harsh and without some kind of diffusion it glares into your eyes seemingly regardless of where the lantern is placed. The diffusion on the AYL and Lepro aren’t the best, but work well enough. Though you do see the LEDs if the lantern is below your eyes.Although the AYL, Lepro and other brands of this lantern are identical in appearance, their LED arrays can vary. The AYL has two semi-circles of rectangular daylight LEDs with a center cluster of four amber LEDs. Conversely, the Lepro has a semi-circle of round daylight LEDs, a semi-circle of amber LEDs, and a center cluster of four red LEDs used only for the flashing mode. All the LEDs on the AYL can be powered at once, making it the brighter lantern since it has more LEDs.Control is another feature that varies among these Chinese lanterns. The sequence on the AYL is AMBER-DAYLIGHT-BOTH-FLASHING. What I love about it is once you select a mode, say the daylight setting, after a few seconds the lantern can be turned off just by pressing the button again without cycling through the annoying flashing position that my other lanterns require. I’d prefer a lantern with just daylight LEDs and a simple HIGH/LOW/OFF control, but I guess others like the additional features.I’m phasing out my use of D batteries with the excellent Whizzo Tech AA-to-D adapters that accept one to three AA batteries. I’m still using alkaline batteries but am slowly switching to white Eneloop rechargeables. Reattaching the bottom cap after inserting batteries is tricky at first, but if the directions that are right here on Amazon are followed, it’s fairly easy. I’m an old guy with arthritic hands, so if I can do it anyone can!
