Our house is a 1950s ranch, so a farmhouse lantern isn't exactly a period-correct choice — but sometimes a little anachronism is exactly what a dated exterior needs. After watching a quick YouTube tutorial, I replaced the old fixture myself. Installation was straightforward enough that I'd call it genuinely beginner-friendly. The only issue I ran into was that the light has a grounding wire, but the house didn't. I just left it unattached. I love the farmhouse lights and how they look so I got this one to replace one I had gotten off of Amazon a little over a year ago. The previous one I got is already getting rusted from the salt air since I did not pay attention to the metal type when I bought it and it is now rusting away. This one is however aluminum so it should not rust, or hoping it does not rust since I live really close to the ocean. Installation was pretty easy since I had a similar light I just took it off and easily put this one in it's place. It feels sturdy and a decent quality, but for some reason the way the glass is or something it doesn't feel like it gives off as much light as my previous one with the same bulb in it. I am not sure why since the glass is clear as well, but the light does not reflect the same and give off the same brightness. I like that it is open on the bottom to easily change the bulb so I am going to try a different kind of bulb to see if that helps with the brightness.

As I've lived in my house longer, the more hardware in & on my house that I can tell came from the local big box hardware store and it's pretty obvious it's likely the cheapest version the contractor could find. I get it, saving expenses where you can makes sense but some of it really is crap. I recently changed out a burned out bulb and noticed the state of the fixture and figured for ~$40 I should replace it. The old one was streaking with rust in some areas. Yes it was old but I suspect this one won't do that as it's made from aluminum (and painted black). This is a simple fixture with an E26 socket (standard light bulb size - although no bulb is included) with a max wattage of 100 watts. I've moved to LED bulbs so I could put a 1600 lumen bulb in and it'd consume less than 20 watts (although I only put in a 60-watt equivalent). If you want to dim your bulb and you have a dimmer (and your bulb supports that), this fixture will work fine. The dimensions are a little bigger than my old light but it's roughly the same size so no issues there. Installation took a little bit of finagling (I had to move the mounting screws from the holes they were in to the ones closest to the center), but now that it's installed it looks good and I'm quite happy with how it's worked out.

Right out of the box they feel very substantial and sturdy, with a solid metal frame and a clean black finish that fits nicely with a farmhouse or modern exterior.The design looks great once mounted. The clear glass gives it a crisp, open look and lets off plenty of light. Because it is clear, you have to put in a nice looking bulb too, like an Edison style, since it’s fully visible.One more small consideration: The bottom is open, which helps with ventilation and bulb changes, but I do wonder if it might attract bugs over time. Not a dealbreaker, just something to be aware of depending on where you install it.Overall, these lights look high quality, feel durable, and really upgrade the appearance of the space. Great option if you want a classic style with a solid build.
