Matter Smart Light Bulb

The adjustable body was a nice surprise since it extended to fit perfectly without any gaps or awkward overhang. Music sync mode works surprisingly well and turns my living room into a mini dance floor. Just keep in mind it needs a wifi connection, but once set up, it is a lot of fun to play with.

The standout feature here is definitely the retractable/stretchable design. It sounds gimmicky at first, but it is actually very useful for recessed lighting because you can adjust how far the bulb sits inside the can and get a much cleaner, flush look instead of the bulb disappearing deep into the fixture.Setup was surprisingly easy thanks to Matter support. I was able to connect it quickly with smart home systems without dealing with the usual annoying proprietary setup process, and once connected it responded reliably to brightness and color controls.The color options are fun and the multi-zone effects look pretty cool, especially for accent lighting or mood setups. The whites are decent and the bulb is bright enough for everyday use, though I would not call it exceptionally bright compared to some higher-end smart bulbs. The RGB colors also lose some brightness compared to plain white mode.Build quality feels good overall, and the adjustable neck mechanism feels more solid than expected instead of flimsy or loose. It is also nice that it works in both recessed cans and normal lamp fixtures despite being designed mainly for BR30 applications.The main downside is value. For a single bulb, the price feels a bit high considering the brightness is only moderate and some cheaper smart bulbs exist with stronger light output. Also, depending on your ecosystem, you may still need the companion app for certain advanced features like music sync or more detailed color effects.Overall though, this is a genuinely clever and well-designed smart bulb with easy Matter integration, good colors, and a very practical adjustable form factor that makes it especially useful for recessed lighting setups.

Good color and easy to use light. Bulb shape: with an elongated shaft, this bulb would work great in overhead/ceiling sockets. You can stretch the shaft to get the right height, which allows a flush look. Love this. But, I’m still able to use in normal lamps, too. The flat front puts off I nice flat light. Colors: this does the spectrum; any color you can think of. Good value and compatible to many fixtures.

Set up was a little difficult but after getting it all connected to my Alexa and WiFi it was super easy to use. I’d highly recommend getting them, I would give 5 stars but set up could be easier so they’re getting 4 stars

This is a pretty sweet 'smart' bulb. Besides being mult-colored and controllable via app or your home assistants, it also extends by pulling on the shaft to make it longer, and is Matter compliant. That means installation and use is pretty universal. It quickly installs and can be linked to your Amazon account, Google Home, SmartThings or Apple Home. It is meant for recessed lighting, but I put it in a little lamp next to my bed. I didn't even have to install an app to set it up. I simply screwed it in, and with my phone I scanned a QR code in the instructions. This immediately launched a option to add it to Samsung SmartThings, but I opted to choose another option and linked it with my Amazon Echo Dot. It configured and connected without issue or with me really doing anything else. This 'Matter' protocol really makes everything so easy. I then can control it with my voice to turn it on, change colors, brightness, etc. The bulb seems very well built and I like the extendibility of the shaft to make it fit either your recessed lighting properly, or maybe you just want it to sit higher or lower in a lamp.

This smart light bulb is so smart no software download was necessary. No need to hop onto its own local setup WiFi. Just power on, and thanks to Matter compatibility, Google Home picked it right up, configured it for the WiFi, and is able to control all of its functionalities without leaving the Home app. This item is packaged in a full color printed thick cardboard box. With the photo of the product printed on multiple sides, list of all smart home framework supported, performance specs, barcode product identification, QR codes you name it. About the only thing not printed on the box is the fine prints, which, you will find in a pamphlet inside that's doubles as starting instruction. The light bulb is full RGB for any color you wish to display. It is 850 lumens bright. Dimmable, RGB color selectable, and it has quick short cuts to 6 different color temperatures in the more traditional color spectrum going from super warm to 5K super cool. While we run a mixture of just about all of the Smart Home frameworks. It is likely Matter that enabled Google Home to pick it up immediately. It did prompt me to scan the Matter QR code so that is one extra step you do have to do external to the Home app. Still, much easier than most other integration steps. This bulb has another interesting feature. It can extend to fit in a recessed lighting fixture. In fact, it's probably most appropriate for recessed cans since the light part is puck shaped rather than bulb shaped. Glad to see in the wake of Wemo getting out of the business, many others are stepping up. Smart home automation five stars.

I decided to add a few things to my smart home setup since some of my older devices had some security issues and are not supported anymore. What I can say in a nutshell is Matter is really great in iOS but does not include all the features available for this bulb.Setting up this smart bulb was really easy, much like other smart devices that I’m sure most have used over the years. Simply scan a QR code and enter some info about the device and you’re done. But after you have setup in HomeKit, it’s obvious that you can only use the on and off functions. In order to change the colors and have the light pulse from music, you need the app to make everything work.The white is fairly bright. It’s not as bright as other LED’s of a similar size, but it’s bright enough to read a book and make out details in the dark. The other colors are much more dim in my opinion. The red is very difficult to use because it’s so dim. This is difficult for me because I use red at night to try to keep my circadian rhythm in check. Overall I am happy with the brightness of the light, but I wish the red was about 100% brighter.I didn’t have any flickering issues with the light, unless you count the setting that reacts to music in the AiDot app. To be clear it doesn’t flicker, just pulses rhythmically to the beat if you are inclined to do such things.Something that kept happening to me was the app did not connect to the bulb over Wi-Fi. I was able to connect over Wi-Fi with the HomeKit app but inconsistently with the AiDot app. The app seemed to prefer Bluetooth over Wi-Fi which is sort of an issue if you are away and you want the bulb to light up in blue specifically. I know that’s not a very realistic problem to have, but there it is.In the end I’m very happy with the bulb. It’s worth the asking price and I feel secure using it with HomeKit and my iPhone. I would recommend it if you are looking for an easy to use smart bulb. 5 out of 5 stars

This is my first Matter smart home device. Though I wished it wereatter over Thread instead of over WiFi. Sure most people probably think WiFi is prevalent and thus more people can use it. But for those invested in home automation you likely already have a Thread compatible hub. The advantage of a Thread device instead of WiFi is that devices can self build mesh bridge nodes to extend to all parts of your home and not need to rely on good WiFi coverage. Also it gets crazy if everything is on WiFi so it's nice to be able to limit that.All that out of the way the bulb has incredible range of colors. Depending on your home automation situation you can integrate it into programmable routines. I'm using SmartThings and Amazon Echo Alexa for voice control.Setup was very easy. I will say set it up outside of a deep socket first like in a lamp to get the QR code on the bulb to pair things. Then move it into where you need ot. I will say that my Android phone immediately saw this device before it was connected to my WiFi and offered to set it up with Google Home. But I cancelled that and went into my SmartThings to add it there instead. Then I shared it from there into Google Home. I just needed SmartThings to be the main central controller for my setup.Since I already have Alexa tied into SmartThings, in my Alexa this new color bulb showed up automatically and it only needed to know what room to finalize.My only gripe with this bulb is that it leaks color from the side. Even when you want white, 2700K or whatever I see blue in the rim. That is only apparent of you look at it directly. It sort of bothers me. See attached picture of light leak on the edge.It was nice that the bulb neck is extendable. But not sure how that can be helpful. Collapsed it is the size of a regular BR30, but with a hard edge instead of being rounded.
